Discogs Importer FAQ

Choose the right workflow for new Shopify products, an existing catalogue, Stocktake, or Discogs Marketplace Sync.

Where do imported products appear?

Products are created in your Shopify Products area. Discogs Importer shows a success message after creation with buttons to view the new product, import another record, or open Shopify Products.

What is the difference between draft and active?

Draft products are created for review before publishing. Active products are published to all eligible installed sales channels only after DI confirms their critical setup. If that setup or publication fails, DI leaves the product as Draft and shows a warning for review.

Which plan includes each workflow?

Basic includes one-record imports. Pro adds Stocktake, CSV exports, selected or page imports from Discogs inventory, and optional Marketplace Sync. Both include a read-only Catalogue Enrichment preview of up to 10 existing products.

Premium adds CSV/Excel imports for new products, resumable Discogs inventory import jobs, and enrichment for existing products. Review a sample of up to 50 products or your entire catalogue, then approve selected missing-metadata updates. Try the sample before upgrading to check whether your products can be matched and the fields suit your store.

Can Pro import more than one listing at a time?

Yes. In Sync, open Import from Discogs inventory and fetch listings from your connected Discogs account. Choose 10, 25, or 50 listings per page, then import selected listings or the fetched page as draft or active Shopify products. Listings are processed one at a time within the batch, with results for each listing.

Premium adds resumable inventory import jobs of up to 5,000 listings per job and CSV/Excel imports of up to 50,000 rows per job. These imports create new products. Discogs inventory import skips known linked listings. Products imported separately through Shopify CSV may lack those links and could be duplicated by a new import.

Should I use CSV import or Catalogue Enrichment?

Use Premium CSV/Excel import to create new Shopify products. Each record row needs an exact Discogs release ID. Preview the spreadsheet and map its columns before importing. The importer skips known Discogs-ID duplicates; it is not a general update tool for reimporting an existing catalogue.

Use Catalogue Enrichment to review products already in Shopify. Basic and Pro provide a read-only preview; Premium can apply selected missing Discogs metafields after approval. Enrichment does not replace your products or download and import their image files again.

What can enrichment change, and how does it match records?

Approved enrichment fills selected missing Discogs metafields, such as genre, style, label, year, and tracklist. These are product metadata fields, not Shopify product tags. It preserves existing values and leaves tags, titles, descriptions, prices, inventory, status, handles, and photos unchanged.

Matching uses a Discogs release ID from a supported field, tag, or verified release-ID SKU source, or a barcode lookup. An ordinary shop SKU or artist/album title alone is not enough. A Discogs listing ID identifies a Marketplace listing, not a release, and cannot be used as a release ID.

Each product is checked again before an update. Missing, ambiguous, changed, or conflicting matches can be skipped. Review a sample first; scanning the entire catalogue does not guarantee every product can be enriched. Large catalogues are processed in resumable batches and can take time to finish.

Do the CSV exports fetch missing genres or styles?

No. On Pro and Premium, Export a catalogue list includes product ID, title, condition, and already-stored genres for products marked as Discogs Importer products. It does not include styles, product tags, SKU, or Discogs listing ID. Products imported separately through Shopify CSV may not have those markers and may be absent from this export.

The physical Stocktake count CSV contains stock quantities, SKU, barcode, and scan history, but no genre or style. Neither export looks up missing Discogs metadata or performs enrichment.

Will the added metadata automatically appear on my storefront?

Saving metadata and displaying it are separate steps. Check whether your product template already displays those fields. Compatible theme blocks can be connected to metafields; other themes may need template work. Catalogue Enrichment is not a theme-design service.

Do I need a Discogs account?

You can search public Discogs release data without connecting your own Discogs seller account. You only need to connect a Discogs API token if you want Discogs Importer to use optional Marketplace sync tools.

What does Discogs Marketplace Sync do?

Sync is opt-in. When connected and enabled, Discogs Importer can help link Shopify products with Discogs Marketplace listings, create Discogs listings from Shopify imports, and keep selected inventory workflows aligned depending on the settings you choose.

Why does Shopify ask for extra permissions?

Discogs Importer needs product permissions to create products and metafields. Inventory and location permissions are needed when the app sets stock quantity or runs optional Sync workflows involving stock levels.

Can I control product type, vendor, and tags?

Yes. Use Import settings to set common values for new imports. On the Import screen, you can also change product type, vendor, and extra Shopify tags for a single record before creating the product.

Does Discogs Importer change my Discogs store automatically?

Not unless you connect Discogs and turn Sync on. Shopify product creation still works when Sync is off, and Discogs Marketplace writes are controlled from Marketplace sync.

Can you help me set up my catalogue workflow?

Yes. If you need help getting your catalogue workflow ready, I can help configure Discogs Importer, map your current listing process, set sensible import defaults, and walk through your first Shopify product imports with you.

Who should I contact for help?

Inside Discogs Importer, open Help & updates and choose Ask Craig, or email info@discogsimporter.app.
